Jamal is a theatrical artist, director, choreographer, casting director, and arts administrator dedicated to courageous storytelling with heart. At TUTA, Jamal has most recently served as Assistant Director and Casting Director for Hedda Gabler and participated in the TUTAlab: 1 Minute Project. Jamal is the Co-Artistic Director of New American Folk Theatre where his credits include Scraps (Director), Dirty Girl (Director/Choreographer), Dark of the Moon (Director). He served as the Associate Artistic Director at Emerald City Theatre, Chicago's theatre for young audiences, with credits including The Wiz (Director/Choreographer), Corduroy (Director), Magic Tree House: Showtime with Shakespeare (Director/Choreographer), Fantastic Mr. Fox (Choreographer). Jamal grew up in San Jose, California and performed in musicals and taught summer camp with Children’s Musical Theatre San Jose. He moved to Chicago where he got his B.A. in Theatre and Public Relations/Advertising at Loyola University Chicago. Other companies Jamal has worked with include Filament Theatre, Mudlark Theater, Fever Up, The Den Theatre, Broken Nose Theatre, Chicago Immersive, Quest Theatre Ensemble, and The Beverly Arts Center.
