WHAT

Riverside features four young women who have grown up together in a Black Baptist church. When one decides to apply for the Riverside Baptist Elizabeth J. Johnson Scholarship as an unwed teen mom, the group is rocked to their core, along with the pillars that make up their faith. Riverside is an intersection of Black American culture, church folk, feminism, and friendship. This minimally-staged lab performance is a TUTA-style exploration of how young women are placed in the fishbowl culture of religion.

As a part of the experience, audience members are encouraged to bring hand fans. Riverside Baptist Church gets warm in the summer!
